Opportunities

Philadelphia Project SHINE has opportunities available for college students as Tutors and Instructors.  For more information, please see descriptions below or contact [email protected].

English as a Second Language (ESL) Tutors
-  provide language, literacy, and citizenship tutoring for approximately two to four hours per week to immigrant and refugee elders.  College students from diverse backgrounds and disciplines tutor in English, U.S.. history, and civics at community centers, churches, senior residences and ESL classes to help older immigrants acquire citizenship and become more actively engaged in their communities. A new focus for 2014 includes helping immigrant elders learn basic technology and skills in using their cell phones, computers or other smart devices.  The ability to manage simple communications skills through technology will help broaden the elders connectivity to friends and family throughout the world.
